Bill Haley

William John Clifton "Bill" Haley (Highland Park, 6 luglio 1925 – Harlingen, 9 febbraio 1981) fu un cantante e attore statunitense, fondatore e animatore del gruppo Bill Haley & His Comets e primo interprete di Rock Around the Clock, uno dei brani rock and roll più conosciuti della storia della musica.
Definito talora il primo re del Rock and Roll e il padre del Rock and Roll con Elvis Presley, vanta altri brani di successo quali Rock The Joint (1952), Crazy Man Crazy (1953), Dim Dim The Lights (1954) e Shake Rattle And Roll (1954)
È stato anche un discreto attore ed é comparso in molti film quali Round Up Of Rhythm (1954), The Blackboard Jungle (1955), Don't Knock The Rock (1956), Rock Around The Clock (1956), The London Rock And Roll Show (1973), Let The Good Times Roll (1973), Blue Suede Shoes (1980).
Durante gli anni '60 ha partecipato anche a diversi varietà musicali, American Bandstand, Thank Your Lucky Stars, The Midnight Special, Washington Square and Toast Of The Town.
A partire dal 1974 il pezzo "Rock Around The Clock" é stato usato come sigla del telefilm "Happy Days". Nel 1987 è stato inserito nella "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame".

Rock Around the Clock
"Rock Around the Clock" è una canzone scritta nel 1952 da Max C. Freedman e James E. Myers e incisa nell'aprile 1954 da Bill Haley & His Comets. Ha la struttura di un blues in 12 misure ed è considerato uno dei brani più rappresentativi del RnR. Inizialmente pubblicato come B-side di "Thirteen Women (and Only One Man in Town)", raggiunse il grande successo quando, l'anno successivo, fu inserito nella colonna sonora del film "Il seme della violenza" (in inglese Blackboard Jungle), arrivando al primo posto delle classifiche statunitensi - dove rimase per otto settimane - e nel novembre 1955 di quelle inglesi.
Nel 1956 per sfruttare la popolarità del brano e del suo autore fu prodotto un film musicale omonimo diretto da Fred F. Sears e interpretato dallo stesso Haley.
